Overview
The EBX-961 is a compact "smart combination" wiper + lighting controller — sized for cab-side mounting on the steering-column or behind-dash bracket, and intended for a 24 V commercial-vehicle program that wants the wiper function group, the front-lighting function group and a rain-light-sensor (RLS) closed-loop on a single ECU rather than split across three modules. It is the right choice when the program already runs a centralised BCM upstream (taking the CAN side) but wants the wiper / lighting / RLS sub-system on a dedicated ECU on the LIN side near the combination switch.
Compared with the family's other wiper modules: the EBX-2208 is the dedicated wiper-only controller (13-pin, single connector, no lighting, no RLS); the EBX-2162 is the platform WCM (30-pin Tyco dual-connector, wiper + washer + LIN + steering-wheel multi-function pass-through); the EBX-961 occupies the middle ground — integrated wiper + lighting + RLS on a single 24-pin TE connector for a smaller / simpler harness than the platform WCM but with more function scope than the dedicated wiper-only controller.
Integrated functions (3 main groups)
1. Wiper drive group
Wiper high-speed and wiper low-speed relay low-side drive (the high-current wiper-motor side rides on an external relay, the controller drives the relay coil), wash-switch input with the standard wash-wipe linkage profile, wiper park-feedback signal acquisition (closed-loop park-position control so the blade always returns to the stowed position on switch release), dedicated HS / LS fault-indicator outputs (RS_ER for the high-speed channel, LS_ER for the low-speed channel) so a fault on either drive surfaces directly to the cluster, and an auto-wipe enable input (WAUTO) that lets the program enable rain-triggered wiping driven by the RLS sensor below.
2. Lighting drive group
Low-beam relay low-side drive (LB) and position-lamp relay low-side drive (PL); an auto-light enable input (LAUTO, low-active) lets the program enable ambient-light-triggered headlamp activation. The on/off state of each lamp is reported over the LIN bus so the upstream BCM mirrors the actual light state on the cluster.
3. Rain-light-sensor (RLS) interface
The dedicated RLS interface on the input side (pins 23 / 24 for sensor ground and 12 V sensor supply, plus the analog rain-sensor input routed onto the MCU AD line) lets an OEM-spec rain-light sensor plug directly into the EBX-961 without a separate sensor-side power supply — one harness pin-pair carries 12 V + signal-ground to the sensor, the rain-intensity signal comes back on the AD line, the controller's auto-wipe algorithm consumes the intensity reading and drives the wiper sub-system. The same sensor module (if it includes ambient-light sensing) also informs the auto-light algorithm.
Engineering details
The EBX-961 occupies a 125 × 50 mm footprint over the two side mounting ears (108 mm body width over the housing) and lands on two Φ7 mm through-hole mounting points. The single 24-pin TE 1379668-1 sealed connector dominates the bottom face. The compact body fits easily on a steering-column bracket or behind the dashboard.
- Single 24-pin TE 1379668-1 connector — one harness mating, one harness routing; the connector is a widely-available standard TE part with industry-wide availability for the matching wire-side housing, terminals and seals
- Low-side relay drive on all high-current outputs — the wiper-motor and headlamp loads ride on external relays per the program's switching topology; the controller drives the relay coil through a protected low-side driver, keeping the high-current load fault-isolated from the controller
- Dedicated fault-indicator outputs (RS_ER / LS_ER) — a stuck-relay or open-circuit fault on the wiper high-speed or low-speed drive surfaces directly to a dashboard indicator without needing CAN diagnostic logic
- Auto-wipe + auto-light enables — both algorithms are enable-gated by dedicated input pins, so the driver / program retains the manual-override semantics
- Dedicated 12 V RLS sensor supply — lets the program use a standard 12 V rain-light sensor module (the in-cab / windshield-mounted IR-based RLS modules typical of the European OEM aftermarket) directly off this controller without needing a separate down-stepped sensor supply
- LIN bus to the combination-switch / steering-column cluster — cleanly separates the wiper / lighting / RLS sub-system from the body-CAN backbone; the upstream BCM subscribes to the LIN-side state via a gateway in the BCM, or this controller can be LIN-slaved to a BCM with a LIN master port
- Free-orientation mounting; IP53 sealing class suitable for in-cab installation

24-pin pin-out reference
The standard build lands all signals on the single 24-pin TE connector per the reference pin-out below. Pins 1–12 carry power / drive-side functions; pins 13–24 carry input / sensor / RLS / LIN-side functions. Final pin allocation is confirmed against the customer harness drawing at quotation.

Comparison with other Youlai wiper modules
| Model | Scope | Pin count | RLS interface | Auto-wipe / auto-light |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EBX-961 | Wiper + lighting + RLS (smart combo) | 24 (single TE) | Yes (dedicated 12 V sensor port) | Both (enable-gated) |
| EBX-2162 | Platform WCM + steering-wheel multi-function | 30 (14 + 16 Tyco) | No | Wiper sensitivity-adjustable (no RLS) |
| EBX-2208 | Dedicated wiper only | 13 (single) | No | No |
The EBX-961 is the right choice for a 24 V program that wants the wiper / lighting / RLS sub-system integrated on a single ECU, with a single-connector simple harness, and a LIN-side integration into the upstream BCM. For a wiper-only controller with no lighting and no RLS, look at EBX-2208; for the wiper + washer + steering-wheel multi-function pattern with the larger 30-pin connector pair, look at EBX-2162.
Manufacturing & testing
Built under IATF 16949 with APQP project planning and a PPAP package available for OEM programmes. Every unit is end-of-line functional-tested before packaging — the wiper HS / LS relay drive with the park-feedback closed-loop, the wash switch + wash-wipe linkage, the HS / LS fault-indicator outputs, the LB / PL lighting drive, the auto-light and auto-wipe enable gates, the LIN bus health, the vehicle-speed input, and the dedicated 12 V RLS sensor supply rail with the analog rain-intensity acquisition are all checked.
