Overview
The EBX-2164 is the LCM (lighting control module) in the EBX family's shared 125 × 123.9 mm cab-side controller platform. The platform groups three controllers on the same housing / mounting footprint / four-fold safety protection silicon stack, with the connector configuration and the firmware function-block selecting the module's purpose:
- EBX-2162 — WCM (wiper control). 30-pin Tyco connector pair, wiper / washer / LIN output / steering-wheel multi-function pass-through.
- EBX-2163 — DCM (door / window / mirror / lock control). 44-pin TE connector pair, window drive + mirror adjust & heat + central-locking + RKE remote with key learning + external RF antenna input.
- EBX-2164 — this module — LCM (lighting control). 50-pin TE connector pair, full tractor + trailer lighting + trailer-light detection + 3-tier speed-threshold output + LDWS / FCW ADAS-input pass-through + dual V_BAT supply.
The EBX-2164 is positioned for the tractor + semi-trailer 24 V commercial-vehicle program. It owns the lighting function group across both halves of the vehicle, with a dedicated trailer-light health-detect input that surfaces the trailer-light status over CAN for driver warning and pre-trip checklist — an increasingly common requirement for fleet operators.
Integrated functions (9 main groups)
1. Parking / low / high / overtake-flash + auto-light
Vehicle-side parking lamp, low-beam, high-beam and overtake-flash drive, with an auto-light input tied to the cab-side light sensor for ambient-light-triggered headlamp activation. Each drive cycle publishes the corresponding lamp-state message onto the body CAN bus so the cluster mirrors the actual light state.
2. Rear work-light
Rear-cabin work-light drive (the high-current rear-facing work-lamp used for cargo / coupling operations); CAN-reported on/off state to the cluster.
3. Tractor + trailer turn / hazard / DRL + auxiliary turn-aux
Tractor-side turn / hazard drive (left-front, left-rear, right-front, right-rear), trailer-side turn drive (left-trailer-turn, right-trailer-turn), the auxiliary turn-aux outputs (the secondary turn lamp used on long trailers), the hazard sub-system (both sides flashing on hazard input) and the DRL drive (left-DRL / right-DRL). Each lamp cycle publishes the state onto CAN.
4. Fog drive (front + rear)
Front-fog and rear-fog drive with front-fog switch input and rear-fog switch input; on/off state CAN-reported.
5. Reverse-lamp drive
Reverse-lamp drive from the reverse-gear input; on/off state CAN-reported.
6. Brake-lamp drive (tractor + trailer)
Tractor-side brake-lamp and trailer-side brake-lamp drive from the brake input; on/off state CAN-reported.
7. Vehicle-speed threshold logic (3 tiers)
Three dedicated speed-threshold digital outputs — >0 km/h (vehicle in motion), >40 km/h (typical lock-out threshold for auto-door-lock / cabin-light auto-off / window-auto-down inhibit) and >80 km/h (typical lock-out threshold for high-speed-only features) — for the program's speed-gated logic. The thresholds are derived from the CAN vehicle-speed message; the digital outputs let legacy switch-driven peripherals participate in the speed-gated logic without needing their own CAN front-end.
8. Trailer-detection function
Trailer-light health-detect input on the standard build — on-line / off-line state of the trailer-light loop is reported over CAN to the cluster / fleet back-end for driver warning (the "trailer disconnected" cluster indicator) and the pre-trip checklist (the "all trailer lights operational" checklist item). Particularly important for fleet operators where the trailer-light health is a routine pre-trip checklist item.
9. Network function (1 × CAN @ 250 kbps + LIN reserved) + ADAS input pass-through
1 × high-speed CAN bus @ 250 kbps to the body backbone (CAN protocol confirmed per program; J1939 family typical for 24 V commercial-vehicle programs). 1 × LIN port reserved on the standard build. The 32-pin input connector also carries dedicated LDWS (lane-departure warning system) input and FCW (forward-collision warning) input — lets the program land the warning outputs from a downstream ADAS camera directly on the LCM, and the LCM forwards the warnings onto CAN for the cluster and the audio-warning consumer.
Engineering details
The EBX-2164 sits on the shared 125 × 123.9 × 28.6 mm platform housing — same dimensions / same mounting features as the EBX-2162 WCM and the EBX-2163 DCM. The connector configuration is the largest of the three (50-pin TE pair vs the WCM's 30-pin Tyco and the DCM's 44-pin TE), reflecting the LCM's larger I/O footprint for the full lighting function group.
- Four-fold safety protection on each high-current drive channel — particularly important on the lighting drives where a shorted bulb is the routine fault mode and the protection envelope keeps a single-bulb fault from taking out the rest of the lamp drives
- Dual power-supply rail (V_BAT1 + V_BAT2) — V_BAT1 powers the auxiliary turn / fog / reverse / tractor-side rear turn loads (pin 13 on the 18-pin connector); V_BAT2 powers the trailer-turn / brake-light / work-light / DRL loads (pin 15). The integrator sizes and protects the two rails independently — for a tractor program, the trailer-side rail typically sees the larger load and a higher-rating fuse
- Trailer-light health detection on the standard build — the loop-back input from the trailer-light circuit is detected for open / shorted state and the state is reported over CAN for driver warning and pre-trip checklist
- 3-tier speed-threshold digital outputs — lets legacy switch-driven peripherals participate in the speed-gated logic without needing their own CAN front-end (an alternative to wiring every peripheral onto the body CAN)
- LDWS + FCW ADAS-input pass-through — for a 24 V tractor program with a downstream lane-departure / forward-collision-warning camera, the camera's warning outputs can land directly on the LCM (LDWS input on pin 18, FCW input on pin 19 of the 32-pin connector) and the LCM forwards the warnings onto CAN; this saves the program a separate gateway module for ADAS integration
- 3 relay drive outputs on the 32-pin connector (pins 10, 11, 12) for program-specific external-relay drive (typical work-light master, fog-lamp master, or trailer-rail master)
- Free-orientation mounting on the shared platform housing
- IP53 sealing class suitable for in-cab installation

Comparison with other Youlai lighting modules
| Model | Scope | Trailer | ADAS | Pattern |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EBX-2164 | Tractor + trailer full lighting + 3-tier speed | Yes (detection + drive) | Yes (LDWS + FCW input pass-through) | Platform LCM (50-pin TE) |
| EBX-2305 | Full-scope BCM for new-energy passenger vehicle (lighting subset only) | No | Subset (camera-trigger via CAN) | Full BCM, 12 V |
| EBX-952 | Heavy-truck BCM (lighting subset) | Subset (basic trailer relay) | No | Full BCM, 24 V |
The EBX-2164 is the right choice for a 24 V tractor / tractor-semi-trailer program that wants a dedicated lighting controller (rather than absorbing the lighting function into the body BCM), with the trailer-light detection function on board and the LDWS / FCW ADAS-input pass-through that lets the program avoid a separate gateway for camera integration. For a full-scope BCM that takes the lighting function as a subset alongside the rest of the body electronics, look at the EBX-952 for the 24 V heavy-truck program or the EBX-2305 for the 12 V new-energy passenger-vehicle program.
Manufacturing & testing
Built under IATF 16949 with APQP project planning and a PPAP package available for OEM programmes. Every unit is end-of-line functional-tested before packaging — all 13 lighting drive channels (parking / low / high / overtake / fog × 2 / brake / reverse / turn / hazard / DRL / work-light), the 3-tier speed-threshold digital outputs, the 3 relay drive outputs, the trailer-light health-detect input, the LDWS / FCW ADAS-input pass-through, the auto-light input, the 250 kbps CAN bus health, the V_BAT1 + V_BAT2 dual-supply rail and the four-fold safety-protection envelope (over-voltage / over-current / short-circuit / over-temperature trip and recovery) are all checked.
