How to use this selector

Use the table as a first shortlist, not a final datasheet. Each NBX box is configured against your harness drawing, so fuse ratings, relay count, connector pin-out and sealing details are confirmed during quotation.

  1. Choose the box role — central distribution, fuse protection, relay switching, harness junction or battery main-feed protection.
  2. Match the mounting environment — cabin (IP54), sealed outdoor (IP65), wash-down / off-road (IP67), or special dry-zone / battery placement.
  3. Compare circuit count and logic, then open the model page for details.

Voltage — most central and sealed NBX platforms cover 9–32 VDC for 12 V and 24 V systems; some fuse / relay boxes are specified as 12 V / 24 V, and the NBX-980 spans 9–36 VDC. Circuit count, sealing and box role usually decide the shortlist.

Reference specs, not a datasheet — figures below are representative production builds. The final fuse map, connector pin-out and sealing options are confirmed against your harness drawing in an RFQ.

Common questions

Central PDB or fuse box — which do I need?

A fuse box only protects circuits; a central power distribution box combines fusing, relay switching and distribution in one housing. Use a fuse box (NBX-955, 981 or 2301) for a cab or auxiliary panel, and step up to a central PDB once a single enclosure has to feed and switch the whole body harness.

When is IP67 worth it over IP54 or IP65?

IP54 covers protected cabin and behind-dash positions, and IP65 is used for sealed placements where the mounting position and connector set allow water-jet exposure. Specify IP67 — the NBX-971 or the NBX-961 excavator box — only when the enclosure can be briefly submerged or sits in a wash-down or fording zone on off-road machinery. Over-sealing a cabin box can add unnecessary cost and packaging complexity.

Can one NBX box run both 12 V and 24 V?

Most central and sealed NBX platforms are rated 9–32 VDC, so the same platform can usually be specified for both 12 V and 24 V programmes. A few fuse and relay boxes are specified as 12 V / 24 V, and the NBX-980 battery module spans 9–36 VDC. The exact rating is confirmed against your programme.

Which model fits a high-circuit heavy-truck harness?

Count your circuits and leave 10–15% headroom: NBX-958 (32), NBX-970 (42), NBX-953 (47) and the vented dry-zone NBX-972 (65). Where the build follows a harness drawing rather than a fixed count, the general-purpose NBX-957 is usually the starting point.

What do you need to quote the right box?

Application and vehicle, system voltage, circuit or channel count, IP rating and mounting location, connector family, and annual volume with target SOP date. The RFQ checklist walks through each one, so the first reply already has the right datasheet and drawing pack.
